Two Things Never Done Before
Unsure about my future, I did what people have done for centuries in times of uncertainty; I consulted the Oracle. She told me that in order to get something I've never had before, I would have to do something I'd never done before. That's why she's the Oracle!
So, today I went on two job interviews; the first was for a job that exactly matched my degree qualifications, and the second was as a keyboard player for a hard rock/metal 80s hair band. (Get it? Hair band?) Both were firsts... while I've had jobs and played in bands, never have I applied for a job that was even remotely geared to the knowledge gained in college, and I've certainly never played with a bone-fide rock star!
The interview with the large software company providing medical services to average American consumers went quite well. My would-be-boss had a clock on his wall permanently stuck on 4:20... :-) ... and he was also quite fond of the color pink! He had a pink phone, wore a pink shirt ,and liked having his nails painted! Needless to say, we got on GREAT! His management style consists of hiring people who know what they are doing and then letting them do their job. Perfect- that's one smart manager! This gig's got potential- health care, 401K, insurance, and it opens the door to the 39th floor at Sky Las Vegas!
Oh, and I learned why ping-pong paddles are red on one side and blue on the other. No kidding, there's a reason!
Afterward, I headed over to audition with a heavy metal/hard rock 80s hair band. The drummer is from Great White. (!) The rest of the band totally looked the part... it was obvious it wasn't just a hobby- it was a lifestyle. So, here I am, looking all business-smart with these hard-core rockers. Juxtaposition, thy name was we! Teehee! Too bad no one caught it on tape!
These guys were used to "hot" girls running around with them... you know, groupies? just watch the video... so I'm not sure I passed to their sexually-saturated eyes... I mean, it's easier to pass among sex-starved older guys playing poker than dudes with pretty young things walking around in skimpies, ya know what I mean? I picked up on that same sense of unease that I did with what's-his-name who had the house... but I let my keyboarding skills do the talking. Who knows? I just had fun!
I want to win the World Series of Poker. I've never done that, so, I did two things I've never done before, and along the way, I realized that life Rocks!
